Mikle, with all due respect, I hope you are aware of the fact that with your messages you conveyed the following implications:

1. Besides "the key players" Serial Chillers is a weak team incapable of winning a match against Wild Dragons.
2. Wild Dragons is a weak team that is guaranteed to lose against Serial Chillers, given "the key players" actively participating in the match.

I hope you understand now how unfair your statement was.

Hi Igor and Zoli!
I'm sorry if I offended you.
I didn't plan on doing this.
I just want to draw attention to this situation. When a team has qualified for the next stage of the competition and loses a game or does not score as many points in a match as it could, because key players miss the game - this is described in the article "Match-fixing". It wasn't my idea. In sports, such matches are considered to be match-fixing.
If you knew that and deliberately played it that way, then it's very bad.
If you didn't know that, then it can be fixed.

With regards, Mikle

Hi Mikle,
I also don't understand why are you mentioning our team, its one thing that SC played in suboptimal lineup, but our team just fought for the win when we had the chance, there was no shadow agreement or something, so please don't insult our team ;)

My win ratio is not an accident, it's skill and preparation. Might be news to you but if you repeat the same opening, people can prepare for it. Anyhow, I'm getting tired of you sarcastically implying that I cheat, it's already at least the 5th time. I have already proven myself in live tournaments more than enough, what about you? You are very welcome to come to a live tournament and there we can play face to face and I promise you the result will be the same. Besides, it's time you grow some balls and be a man, you can't go around harassing and insulting people everytime you lose. Get real.

No Mikhail, I don’t agree with you, they are decent people and didn’t do this, it’s probably an accident, just like it’s an accident that the players will win 100% of all the games

Dear Mikle,

Please acknowledge that the fact that we already qualified to 1-4 playoffs before the last round and the fact that me not playing in a match is not match fixing. I was glad to provide the teammates that didn't play as much in the previous rounds some games. We lost a match which had no stake for us but if you take a look at the games, all of my teammates that played did try to win those games. Many times it was only decided in time trouble. EL is more of a friendly competition, why wouldn't I use the opportunity to give more team members the chance to play games in the tournament? It's nothing new in sports, not just gomoku. I understand you may be upset that the end result meant you will only reach 5-8 playoffs this time but that doesn't give you the right to call any of us unfair. We all had 7 rounds to achieve our goals in the base season, not just this one. Please reconsider this.

Kind regards,
Zoli

I've been playing gomoku for 41 years.
I know that winning is very good. But it's even better to win fairly.
And I also know what unfair play is. It's not just using a computer to help.
These are also match fixing.
Today I am very ashamed of Wild Dragons and Serial Chillers.

Playoff
# 7346
Hello. It was not possible to find in the rules how pairs will be formed in the playoffs (8th and 9th rounds). Do I understand correctly that in the 8th round (semi-final) according to the final table (after 7 rounds): 1st place will have to play with 4th place, 2nd - 3rd, 5th - 8th, 6th - 7th, 9th - 12th, 10th - 11th, and so on. And in the 9th round, will the winners of the pairs in their quartets play each other? Will the losers play a match for 3rd place in their quartets?

8 round: 1 - 4, 2 - 3, 5 - 8, 6 - 7, 9 - 12, 11 - 10, 13 - 16, 14 - 15, 17 - 18

9 round:
winner 1 - 4 / winner 2 - 3;
losers 1 - 4 / losers 2 - 3;
winner 5 - 8 / winner 6 - 7;
losers 5 - 8 / losers 6 - 7;
winner 9 - 12 / winner 11 - 10;
losers 9 - 12 / losers 11 - 10;
winner 13 - 16 / winner 14 - 15;
losers 13 - 16 / losers 14 - 15;

Best regards, Yuriy

I gave my account to a friend yesterday because I couldn't play. I don't know exactly what happened but first I want to apologize for my dumb teammates Vinnetou and BigEndru. From what I know it is 6:2 for us so far. Can we play the rest of the games in the last week?

My answer on 2024-01-21 19:00:30: Hello! At we are ready ready to play the whole match from the beginning at 27.01.2024 at 18:00 PM. (from 0-0)

They answered on 2024-01-22 16:26:37: Hello! We agree to play the match from the beginning at the time you suggested.

Our team completely forgive to the team of Lenochodi. We know they are new players at least in EL, and we would like to help them the teach acceptable behaviour and the fair play. We agreed to play this match on 27.01.2024 at 18:00 PM. (from 0-0) again.

As a captain of We are One team I hereby asked the commitee to accept our decision and ask the commitee please do not punish any of the even the Lenochodi team and us.
Thank you so much.

changes

The committee has decided to move the start of the season to 11.12.2023.
We also decided to keep the maximum number of players in a team at 7.
The rules have been updated accordingly.

I would also like to say that I believe that shorter matches would result in more players playing EL, which I personally believe is preferable over the duration length. I believe there are players who don't have the possibility to spend so much time with gomoku at once, but they would like to play. IMHO more players playing EL would make it more prestigious.
There are other gomoku competitions where those, who seek to spend more time playing, could participate.
It's my opinion. Maybe long matches and less players is what EL is supposed to be.

RE: new rules & discord invite
# 7333
Hello,
personally, I prefer those changes better than a slow downfall...

But the idea of only one game with each opponent sounds very nice to me.
I like those smaller teams, but I also see the point that one player can influence it a lot.
But less players on one date makes things easier for captains.
I understand why changing the number of members can be a problem for long-living teams, but if it helps to revitalize the EL, why delay it?
I don't think that teams in the new system will be more uneaqual (game level). They already are. Only few teams in the previous season were composed of players of different playnig skills.

IMHO, Euroleague needs to have shorter matches (but of high quality -- 10+3 or even more)
and needs to be more flexible (less players in a match, less pain around date agreement)
3 players, one game with each and time control 15+3 seem like an ideal to me.

Also, as aemiT already mentioned below, I would like to invite you all to our Gomoku club. It is an effort to unite all gomoku players and it is a good place for any discussion (not only EL), as it provides flexible tools to moderate it.

Sincerely,
idea.

New rules
# 7330
The announcement of new EL season was quite a surprise this time, because along with the announcement came serious changes in EL rules:
1) EL format: 7 rounds + 2 playoff rounds instead of 9 rounds
2) time control: 7+3 instead of 10+3 (not including playoffs)
3) number of players in team (both maximum and playing in the match): 3+2 instead of 4+3

These changes are very sensitive and affect all teams - for example, all 12 teams that played in the previous EL season had more than 5 players, 9 of 12 - 7 players.
That means all existing teams have to kick out 1 or 2 players to participate in the upcoming season - for a long-living teams it's not an easy task, as many of them had to carefully assemble players for several years.

The idea of these changes is quite clear - Committee wants to increase the number of teams, to make EL games shorter and thus more interesting for newbies. However, the changes don't seem to be very well-thought:
1) reducing the number of players is called to increase the number of teams. however, it's much more likely lead to players leaving the EL - only some of them may be able to organize new teams, but most won't.
2) reducing the number of players in the match to 3 makes the impact of each player to the final result way higher, so EL becomes less team competition. For example, if a player wins all his 8 games in a 4x4 match, the rest of this team needs 8 points out of 24 to get a tie. If a player wins all his 6 games in a 3x3 match, the rest of his team needs only 3 points out of 12.
3) having many teams made of experienced players and many teams made of newbies leads to many matches with an overwhelming difference in game level - this type of matches is demotivating for both teams (the stronger one has no interest in playing, the weaker one is demotivated by having no chances to win)

Most importantly, the decision about these changes has been made without any discussions with a significant part of active EL players - at least 4 of 12 teams that played in the previous season (Wake, MIND INFINITY, Thunderstorm, Humans-2015 - btw, 4 teams of top-7 in the previous season) were completely unaware of the changes.
Discussions among these 4 teams showed, that all of them don't support the changes, in varying degrees. The idea of the Committee is clear and good, but the realization definitely needs to be discussed. At least, there are many other ways to achieve the same goals - for example, reducing the games played between each pair of players from 2 to 1 (like it's done in live team tournaments), letting teams to choose one of predefined time controls (so that newbies can play 3+2 and experienced teams - 10+3), creating 2 groups based on team strength, etc.

The Commitee has a nice experience of reviewing already announced decisions (namely, the decision to allow Sandra play in the EL). If such small decision was reviewed after discussion wth the teams, the decision to change the rules in such a sensitive way definitely needs to be made only after the discussion with EL players.

So I kindly ask to start a discussion, and make the final decision based on its results.

RE: Monitoring of Jenő Mucsi
# 7325
It was a complicated situation as the match date was unclear for a long time and there was a language barrier as well. The monitoring was supervised by myself in the beginning and then by Piotr Małowiejski. I informed you and Jenő as well prior to the monitoring. 13.1 also says "once known" - the person of the superviser was only fixed shortly before the match and even then, as described above, we had to share it.
Note that we, as ELC, are trying to ensure fair play in the competition with the tools we have. We don't mean any harm to any of the players, however, by joining the competition all teams have accepted the rules. We act according to our best knowledge in every case, and, once again, we act FOR the players, not against them.
